    The names of the potatoes we sow are Arran-Victors, British Queens, Irish Champions, Kerrs Pinks, Golden Wonders, Arran Banners, Irish Queens, May Queens, Up-to-dates, Black Champions, Flounders, Arran Chiefs, Scotch Queens, Epicures, Presidents, Snowdrops, Violets-town Wonders, Ash-leaf-Kidneys, Spies abundance, and Kerry Blues.
    The variety that grows best in our land is presidents.
    Potatoes were used instead of starch in our district years ago. There is an old man who lives near us, and when his wife wanted to go to the shop to buy starch he would say "Go out and get a potato and grate it ; it is as good as any starch."
