below. St. Columcille's well in the Demesne of the Tolers (descendants of the notorious hanging judge, Norbury) is situated two miles south of the town is another "Holy Well".
On the feast day, the ninth of June a pattern is held. There is a high Mass celebrated in the picturesque little country Church after which a procession goes to the well. This well is very well kept, thanks to the Curate of the Parish Fr. Cooney. The following inscription is over the well:-
"St Columba used this well when he preached the Gospel and built an Abbey near it in A.D. 550 where Angels shall enjoy my Sacred Cell, mine sloe, mine nut, mine apple and mine well."
There are various objects, medals etc. left there by people who invoke the Saint for a petition. Mrs Caffery can safely say that Alice was cured through such intercession of a choking sensation which she had in her throat.

On the Mullingar Rd. between Killare and Loughnavalley is the famous Hill of Uisneac, on the top of which St. Patrick's bed is to be seen. The bed measures 3' X 8' - a big flat stone. It is said that St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland from the top of this hill.
