    Lacy built it. There is a moat at the back of it. It is four storey high and is certainly in a lonely place. Day or night it looks forbidden from the back view at all events. It is constructed of stone. It was from the parapets of this castle that Hugh De Lacy jumped his horse and gave the name Horseleap to the little village (Hugh De Lacy was killed in Durrow). Around this castle are old ruins of stone. Whether they were dwelling houses or forts I can not say. The place is reputed to be haunted. A white lady is seen in the grounds, a dog was seen in the house itself by the late Mrs. Lett (formely Handy). She called her workman three times one night to put it back in the kennel because she thought it was the setter who had broken loose. Each time the man went to look, the setter was chained.
