  1. 24 March 1938
People long ago were far better than now. Patrick Masterson put up nine stone up over his head, five stone in one hand and four in the other. The bystanders were Colin Loyd, Winetown, Rathowen, Co. W. Meath. Also the late John Sweeney, Clonard, Lenamore.
He also carried six cwt of lead on his back twenty steps of stairs.
Peter Beacon of Clunty, Lenamore, carried forty stone of oats up the steps of [?] mill.
The best mower in this County was Jim Mangan of Ballygarvey, Rathown. The best runners in the district was Larry Herrigan of Loughanstown or Larry Skite, he went by that name because he could run as fast as a horse.
The best swimmer in this district was the late Mickey Hefferon, Rathaspic.
