The people used ot make a drink called sounds out of the seeds of the oats that came from the mill. An equal part of seeds and oaten meal was put to steep in a crock full of water with an iron spoon left in it to make it sour. When it was steeping for four or five days it was stirred up and strained. The liquid was called "Sounds", it was used for a drink and also for eating stirabout with.
It could also be boiled and eaten with milk like corn-flour of the present day and when it was boiled it was called "Flummery"- Collector
