- Long ago in Newtowncashel when the people died in an Island the funeral had to come across the water a long distance by means of boats. There was a large flag on the side of the water and the coffin of those who died would be placed on the flag and it sailed straight to the opposite shore beside the cemetery, and it would never move until the coffin would be taken off it. Some old people harmed the flag and it would not be seen.
