    was hanging on the Cross a robin came and tried to pull out the nails and blood got on his breast and remained there for ever.
    The birds build their nests in branches of trees and in the hedges they build their nests with moss, and small bits of sticks and wool of the sheep and hair they get in the cows houses.
    Some of the birds lay five eggs and six and the cuckoo only lays one. The robins and blackbirds generally come to the doors for food when the snow is on the ground. The birds eat worms and the thrush gets snails and break them against stones and eat them. It is a sin to rob a birds nest, it is the same as robbing a house. The wren is the smallest of all birds but he is supposed to be the king of the birds.
    The cuckoo is noted for his tricks. She lays but one egg
