- The name of the townsland in which I live in is called Lanesboro. It is in the parish of Rathcline. The most common name is Farrell and the way Lanesboro got its name is as follows.
When plantations were introduced in Ireland a man named Lane got Lanesboro and its surroundings. He was then created a peer and got the title of Lord Lane and therefore Lanesboro got its name from him.
The houses that are in Lanesboro are mostly all newly slated houses except one that is Mrs Leavy.
