at James Farrell's, Lisnacusha. That fair in Lisnacusha was not held since that till last year.
There were more fairs long ago than are now. There was a lamb fair in Lanesboro on the 10th. June, and a pig fair in October. The reason these fairs are not now is, because not many buyers came, and not many people brought animals to them.
Toll is given on cattle sold. This is given to the Urban Council. About sixpence a head is given. When pigs are sold threepence a head is given for luck. According to the amount of money is got for cattle the luck is given, 1s is given in 5£.
When the bargain is made the buyer writes the price on a ticket, if the seller agrees he keeps the ticket. Sometimes the seller claps his hand on the buyer's hand if he agrees with the bargain. When cattle are sold a piece of hair is cut off there sides with a scissors, and when pigs are sold the side is scraped with a knife.
