- (continued from previous page)them up in a bundle to dry. When they would become stiff with the grease they would ready for use.
Soap. People used to get beef fat from the butcher and boil this in a pot until melted. Then they would put some baking soda into it. When they would become hard it was ready for use.
Starch. People in bygone days used to live a lot on boxty. This was bread made out of potatoes grated on a sheet of tin with holes to make it course and rub the potatoes to this and then wring this in a clear cloath. The water that would come out of the grated potatoes would be lit set on the bottom of a basin and the water drained off this starch would rest on the bottom of a basin to the dept of an inch or so. This they would lay out on a plate on a wall or porch to bleach in the sun this they would keep the whole year round for starching collars and cuffs and all clothing.
Baskets. Long ago people used to make their own baskets for doing their shopping and bringing home there groceries. First the used fine Willie Sallies. These they boiled in a pot of boiling water. Then(continues on next page)- Collector
