- The terrible disaster of the famine happened in the year 1886 and 1847.
Many deaths occurred during that period. John McCormack and his children native of Esker died during the famine. It was on a Sunday morning when a neighbour went into the house and they were all dying round the fire.
There is a place in Carryglass called the Marsh and all the people who died in the famine were buried in that field.
There is a quarry in Carryglass and a few years ago bones were found there and it is said that the bodys of the people(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
