Local Cures
14th February, 1938. Long ago there were not many doctors, but the people used to act as their own doctors. They had cures for every illness and most of these cures were taken from herbs.
They used the dandelion as a cure for consumption. They used to take off the leaves and boil the roots and stems in water for about an hour. Then they strained it and left it in bottles for use. The roots of nettles were used for curing the measles. Garlic was used for coughs and colds. It was a real old cure long ago but the doctors do not acknowledge it now - a - days. Scutch - grass was used for rheumatism and all classes of pains.
