- Two miles to the north west of Rathowen is situated a bridge over the Black River known as "Leg Woods Bridge.
Legg Woods according to those folks was at one time in life a gamekeeper in New Pass.
He seems to have led a very wicked life and he gave trouble to the people. He came there with the Cromwellian settlers.
When he was dead for a year or two his ghost appeared and he used to haunt every one and he used to turn over people's carts when they used to be going by. He often frightened horses and annoy men, women and children.
