Long ago it was a custom to put fire under the churn when churning to keep away witches as it was thought they used to take away the butter. - There are a number of lone bushes growing through the country. It is very unlucky to cut those bushes. On one occasion a man cut down one of those lone bushes and a number of butterflies came out and stuck on the mans face, and hands.
