“There is a river named the Boro bout 5 miles south of this school.”
4There is a river named the Boro about 5 miles South of this school. In this river there is a hole which is called the "Soldier's Hole". There is a wood over that river. In 1798 there was a band of English soldiers in it and they had a box of gold with them. A crowd of men gathered together and ran them out of the wood. These soldiers threw the box of gold into this hole. They told a man to mind it and he said he would mind it for all time. Then the men who were chasing the soldiers shot the man and then he was changed into an eel with a man's head on him and he lived in the water. When there would be great silence he would come out of the water and graze the grass around him. Often times men used to try to get the box of gold out of the hole. They used to get a long rope and one man would go down in the water and put the rope around the box of gold and the other men(continues on next page)- Collector
