  1. The Church was built about the year 1770 at the expense of the then proprietor of Clara House estate - Edward Armstrong Esq.
What is now known as Clara parish was formerly partly in the parish of Killbride - Langan and partly in the Parish of Kilmanaghan. One of the collection plates in Clara Church has "Kilmanaghan" on it. Killbride-Langan contained the town of Clara and the village of Charlestown. It was part of the benefice of Ardnurchar and is now the perpetual curacy of Clara.
Above information given me by E. Beacome Esq. Lay Reader assisting Revd B. Lougheed. He consulted some old records and an old ordinance map in Clara House, now the Rectory, formerly the local "Great House".
