1. The Care of Our Farm Animals (ar lean)

   hay or straw into it. We put thirteen eggs under the hen, or turkey.
   The date is written on each egg so that people will know when the eggs should be hatched out.
   The farm animals are:- horses, cows, asses, goats, calves, pigs, sheep, cats and dogs.
   The cows have names, "The Black Cow", "The Red Cow", "The Spotted Cow", "The Maol Cow".
   When we are driving the cows we say "Go On" or "How, How".
   A cowhouse is a cement building with a manger for the hay, a cement floor with a channel to let out the dirty water. There are chains on the manger to tie the cows. A cowhouse is called a "Byre". The cows are tied around the neck. The cowties are usually made of iron, by the smith.
   On Palm Sunday people put up a piece of palm in the cowhouse for luck. When finished milking you put the sign of the cross on the cow's hip with the froth of milk.
