  1. The Spree at Kavanagh's
Contributed by Mrs. Troy, Ballinaguelsha, Eglish, Birr.
Twas on a cold December's night
I'd have you all to know,
    Twas up to Tommy Kavanagh's
    A whole brigade did go.
    Invited to a noble spree
    We did attend the call
But before the night was over
We were ready for to fall.
    The description of the liquor
I'd have you all to know,
    Twas God's adulteration
what from the stream did flow
He stuffed us all with water
    Till we could scarcely stand
But we clipped about and in and out
    Saying "Tommy ain't it grand".
    Tommy went to Fivealley
In search of all the boys
In coming back he did not forget
    To call into Molloys.
    When he reached his destination
He was both tired and sore
And he was treated like the convicts
    In the jail at Tullamore
