  1. At one side of Arklow Rock there is a quarry. There is a heap of stones in this quarry. It is called 'Whelan's Motion'. A man named Whelan, worked in this Motion about twenty years ago.
Every night at ten o'clock a band of fairies used to come from the Motion and go along the road playing music. They used to go toward a place called the Hazel Bush near Clogher Strand and there they stopped. A man, coming up the road one night, met them. He took no notice of them. He said that they were dressed in red. he did not see the instruments that they were playing. One night they carried off a man: he did not know he was being taken. He found himself sitting on a ditch about a mile away from where he should have been. The heap of stones is still in the Motion but the fairies are never seen or heard now.
