  1. 1st. The Philis Thompson and family were landlords for two generations in Owley.
    2nd. They were not good landlords, tyrannical rather.
    3rd. There were evictions on various occasions. Some cleared away on what was known as the free emigration while their homes were burned to the ground and the landlord wanted the evicted farm as a farm for bullocks to ship to England while others of the evicted were returned as weekly tenants or herds at a penny per week to look after the cattle on those farms from
