  1. I stood delighted but still benighted
I stood pondering beneath the flood
The fish were schooling from foreign fishponds
and came for refuge to Ravenswood.
Nights silent arbours fell on the bowers
The feathered warblers to rest inclined
Lest to disturb them from their slumber
Beneath the glasshouse I did recline
As day was breaking their tunes awoke me
The lark & linnet their notes were charming
The thrushes weaned me from thoughts of home.
I'm in the midst of a gay plantation
And its fertility whereon I stood
The pen of Homer would beck a scholar
To sound the praises of Ravenswood
A noble fishpond I next perceived it
Gently supported by a fountain clear
Where the trout & salmon by nature swimming
The swan courageous its course did steer
Its like midsummer in cold December
No storm disturbing this gentle abode
With flood gates shaking & flood gates wavering
    All storms abating round Ravenswood
