- (continued from previous page)out fishing on these waters early on a Summer’s morning as the sun was breaking over the hills. Whilst paddling his cot or boat he saw something glittering in the waters. He was very curious to know what it was. He went home and came back with a long drag or grapple, and dragged around the spot, after many attempts he managed to get the object into the boat which proved to be a wonderful hand-wrought copper kettle, and in further dragging operations he brought to the surface several copper utensils obviously made and used by the Monks in the Abbey.
My father can verify to these finds as he saw some of them in Mr. Mc. Cahill’s, as far as he knows Mr. Mc. Cahill still has the kettle and hand beaten copper pan in his possession. This pan has a handle of carved oak. News got around about the finds and as far as my father knows a Dr. O’Gorman from Dublin called with Mc. Cahill and induced him to part with some of this treasure on the(continues on next page)- Collector
