- The feastday of Saint Brigid is honoured in the West by the making of crosses out of straw. The nice golden straw is woven around a frame and when complete looks beautiful and is placed over the door in honour of the Saint.
Candles made out of rushes are lighted on the feast of the Epiphany. Strong stout rushes are pulled, dried beside the fire, peeled, dipped in grease and lighted. Basket-making out of peeled sally rods was a craft of many of the old people.(continues on next page)- Collector
