- The people long ago used to live mostly on boxty and other meal bread. This the way the boxty was made. They washed and peeled the potatoes and grated them into a dish. The grater they had was a piece of tin and holed with a nail. When they would have them grated they would put them into a cloth and wring the water out of them. they put a few boiled potatoes in it and mixed all together and added a pinch of salt and some flour and baked it on a griddle.

- Long ago the people built their houses in low hollows in the land they built the walls with blue clay and roofed them with bog oak. These were called mudwall-houses. The walls were dry and warmer than the stone or cement ones. There was(continues on next page)
