  1. A Local Song (continued)

It was on the eight of October in the year of eighty four

    (continued from previous page)
We beheld a glorious triumph of bloom and laurel green
"Céad Míle Fáilte" was inscribed in letters large and full
The sight was most imposing though the day was dark and dull
We had brave men from Oldcastle who would die for Ireland's sake
And more from Mounterconnaught that came across the lake
From Crosserlough and Castlerahan our heroes came that day
Moynalty, Kells, and Mullagh their green banners to display
A splendid band from Ballyjamesduff came marching into town
While the brass band from Old Castle through the streets played up and down
Those happy cheers did seal our earss and our hearts grew young with glee
We thought at length the hour had come when Ireland would be free
Brave Sexton I saw there old Ireland's hope and pride
With George Delaney brave and bold and Redmond by his side
Joe Biggars too, tried and and true on the platform
