graveyard. Long ago there was no graveyard in East Cavan but it and funerals came from Lurgan, Knockbride and all surrounding parishes some being brought as far as thirty miles.
In this graveyard are the ruins of an old church. St. Patrick's which in olden times was an important ecclesiastical foundation. According to tradition it was founded by St. Patrick and near by was a stone with the imprint of Saint's knee. The dent in this stone always contained water which cured the toothache. It is recorded that in 1542 this church was under the patronage of a Garrigan family who were chieftains of the district. Beside the ruined church is pointed out the tomb of a Bishop Garrigan an abbot of the monastery.
