  1. Thatching: James Ross, Drumanespic, Baileboro', used to thatch all the houses in the district long ago but now nearly all the men generally thatch their own houses. There is one man who thatches for those who cannot thatch themselves. His name is Dick White of Cliffin, na some of the old people who have experience of thatching say that he is the best thatcher in the Co. of Cavan.
    Rye straw is the best for thatching with. The thatcher used a stopping fork for putting in the straws on the roof. Thatching was put on in what they used to call beds. Four stopples made each bed of thatch. The stoppling fork is made of a narrow
