There was a great drought a long time ago and the rivers and lakes were nearly dry. There was a crock of gold supposed to be in the "Island Lake" of Crusheen and it was seen that time and an eel or some serpent twisted around it and it frightened every one and no one tried to get it.
The oats or wheat did not grow and they could not cut it they had to pull it. - In 1904 Mrs Keehan was sitting at her own door cutting potatoes and she was killed instantly and all the people were gone out and when they came back she was dead and all black. She lived in Ballinruan.
