  1. Local Fairs
    The local fairs are mostly held on the town streets, but in Dundalk there is a fair green for the fair. Bailieborough fair is held on the first Monday of the month, Kingscourt on the first Tuesday, Shercock on the second Wednesday, and Carrickmacross on the second Thursday. Buyers often transact business in the country by buying cattle and pigs. There are many people going around with ponies and buying fowl. These people are called "cleavers". The fairs always held on the streets. When the bargain is made the parties concerned show their agreement by striking hands. Money is also given to the buyer when the animal is sold. This is called a "luck penny".
    Sheep when sold are marked with red paint, also cattle. This is done so that the beast wont go astray. The halter is always given with the
