- There are many domestic animals on the farm:- cows, horses, sheep, mules, donkeys, calves, goats, kids, turkeys, geese, hens, ducks, pigs, of lesser value are dogs and cats. The cows have names each according to their colour, such as, the black cow and the red cow. Other names are:- Sally, Polly, Bessy. When bringing them in from the fields they are called "Sug".
The cowhouse is a rectangular building and along one wall is a row of stakes. These are sticks to which the cows are tied. The name that house usually get is a byre. Most cows are tied by the neck, but some are tied by the horns and by the legs. These tyings are made from a chain. Long ago the cows used to be tied by a(continues on next page)
