    League. They were punished for trivial acts for instance if they cut a tree they would be punished or if they let their place go down it would taken off them. Shirley used to forbid goats as they would eat the hedges. The people gathered tithes for the landlord in former times and they were gathered in kind.
    The people of these districts objected to pay the tithes and the result was that a fierce fight took place between the tithe collectors and the people. This fight is known as the 'battle of Magheracloone" and is talked about to this day. Soon after the tithes were done away with and the amount of them added to the rent.
