- In the townsland of Cóir-na-gnó in Ogonnoloe parish, there was mass said during the penal days in the land of Mr. John Kavanagh. It was a deep ravine with a flag on one side of it. It was here the mass was celebrated and scouts watched nearby for the yeomanary. This field is called "páirc na h-altórac briste". Mass was also celebrated in Bellkelly near what is now called "cam hill". It was said here more frequently than in cóir na gnó. The yeomen were stationed on the opposite side of the road but here the scouts could obtain a better view than in "cóir na gnó". No one dared to go to mass unless they knew the way was clear to them.
