    of gold is hidden in this island and a large eel is said to be minding it. He was often seen and his body was as large as a horse and it is supposed that his tail is wound about the crock of gold to mind it.
    Long years ago a man came with two white horses and strong chains to get the gold.
    He had the chains wound around the gold and it brought to the surface of the water when this large eel appeared and broke the chains and then the gold sank to the bottom of the lake under the island.
    There is another lake in the parish of Crusheen named Cappafean Lake, which is about three miles south of Crusheen and near this lake is a little hillock called "Crogan an Piobaire" and it is said that gold is hidden under this hillock and a large eel is minding it. A little distance from Cappafean Lake is a pond and a troop of horses was seen several times coming out of the pond and grazing and when they saw anybody they disappeared into the pond again.
    There have been many strange animals seen in this district. A man who was returning home one night saw an object standing by the road side. It was about the size and
