    As I roved out one morning fair
    As early as I strayed.
    It being in the pleasant month of [?] May
    When birds sang in each glade
    The sun it being meridianly
    And fully decked with pride
    With primroses and daises
    Down by Black water's side.

    I had not roamed one mile or more
    When thus I did espy
    Two lovers talk as they did walk
    Down by the river's side.
