home-made rope called a "súgán" made out of straw. It is tied round the neck of the cow and then tied on to a staple in the ground.
It is lucky to hang up a horse-shoe in the cow house. It is supposed to be lucky to give the cows first milk after she has calved to herself to drink. When a person is learning how to milk a cow it is lucky to spray some of the milk on him.
