- Long ago there lived a man in the parish of Agamore called Michael MacHugh a great stone-thrower. He was the Irish champion at throwing the fifty-six pounds weight. He competed with several men from different parts of Ireland. At funerals the boys would gather early to the house and start throwing the stone. The best of the boys would be picked out. The other people would cheer the winner.From Kilkelly to Aghamore there are two roads. Two neighbours would run that distance. One of them would take the Raith road while the other would go the Aughamore road. The distance by both roads is about four miles. The contest was to see which of them would be in Aghamore first.There lived in Kilkelly a man called Mr. Prendergast a noted walker.
