  1. Beesoms:
The Castleblayney district was famous throughout the 19th entrury for its beesoms. Mollyash Mountain, and Ananegher Bog in the adjacent county of Armagh supplied the raw material viz. heather from which the beesoms were made. The beesoms averaged two feet in lentgh and were lapped with split briar. They were sold at fairs & markets in Cos. Monaghan and Louth at 1 ½d each. The worn out beesom was not discarded; it was used by the thrifty housewife for scrubbing churns and tubs. This local industry disappeared somewhere around 1910 to the great loss of the peasants int he Mollyash district adjoining Co. Armagh.
A popular verse commending the excellency of Castleblayney Beesoms ran as follows:-
"Castleblayney Beesoms are the finest ever grew
Castleblayney Beesoms were bought and sold in Mullacrew".
Mullacrew - village in Co. Louth
