- In this part of the country there were three meals eaten a day in olden times. The breakfast, the dinner, and the supper were the three meals. The breakfast was in the morning and the dinner was in the middle of the day and the supper was at night.
The people went out for an hour or two to work before they got their breakfast. The breakfast consisted of oat meal porridge and tea and oatmeal bread. The dinner consisted of salt beef and potatoes and the supper consisted of porridge and buttermilk. Potatoes were not eaten at every meal.
There was buttermilk and sweet milk drunk always long ago. If the family was big they had to pull the table out to the centre and if the family was small it was left at the wall. The table never hung up against the wall.
There were oatmeal bread and Indian bread eaten always. Meat was not eaten often in olden times. Salt, beef and potatoes was generally eaten. The people did not eat late at night.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
