- 23-11-37There are a lot of sayings with regard to the weather. To see a red sky at night is a sign of good weather and a red sky in the morning is a sign of rain. If the sun has a red sunset in the evening it is the sign of good weather. To see a far away ring round the moon is a sign of a near storm.
The west wind brings most rain to this district. If the wind blows from the north it is a sign of snow. When the swallows fly low it is a sign of bad weather.
If the cat washes three times over it's ears it is a sign of rain or if the cat sits with its back to the fire it is a sign of rain. If the far away hills seem near, it is also a sign of rain.
To see the reflection of the hills or trees in the water is a sign of rain also.
If there are a lot of midges to be seen in a summer evening it is a sign of a change in the weather. If the smoke goes straight up into the air it is a good sign of the weather and if it goes low down it is a bad sign of the weatherCarrie Moore
