Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The stone from which we get lime when burned and slaked is of a blue colour in this district while in other districts it is of a whitish colour resembling chalk.
The stone is first quarried by blasting and is then broken up by heavy hammers into pieces. It is then put into kilns with a layer of anthracite coal alternately with the limestone.
The kiln is then set alight and burns for some days When it is quite cold the stones are removed and will crumble into powder when soaked with water.
The nearest limekiln is about two miles from Ramelton. There is no lime burned in it now.
