In Ireland long ago the people had a custom that on May morning the first at the well would be the "Flower of the well" for that year.
On Easter Sunday morning the sun dances three times when it rises. It is usual for the people to eat plenty of eggs on that day. The children build sod houses some time before, and on Easter Sunday they gather together and go to the house and boil eggs.
Hallow-eve. This feast is held on the last night of October. It is the custom to eat "poundies", apples, nuts, oaten bread, tea and fadge. The children paly games on this night, such as trying to catch an apple that is hanging from the ceiling. The children put their hands behind their backs and try to catch teh apple with their mouths.
Bonfire night is held on the 23rd June. It is the custom for every townland to light a big fire of sticks and turf. All the boys and girls about the place go to it, and dance, sing and play music around the fire.
