- On St. Stephens Day a great many men join up. Then they go out collecting money to houses. When they have the money money collected they have a dance for those who joined. They are called the mummers. It is said that the people used to make rush crosses on St. Brigids Day. Then they would put a cross all over the house and they are supposed to be lucky. On St Patricks Day the people wear a shamrock. All the Irish men drown the shamrock on St. Patricks night. The people used to make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and put a ring in it. Who ever gets got the ring would be married before next Shrove Tuesday. Early on Easter Sunday morning the sun dances. On Good Friday the people used to start working after the passion which is supposed to be about twelve o'clock. A great crowd gather sticks for a fire on St. Johns night. Then they light the fire and crowd around it and cheer for St. John. Long ago the people used to kill a fowl on St. Martins Day for him. One day there was a woman going to the market and St. Martin asked her for a fowl. Then he killed the fowl and gave it back to the woman.
