- Over fifty years ago the art of soap making was carried on in many homes in this part of the country. The soap was made up of fat to which a small quantity of dye was added. The fat was boiled and stained, then the dye was mixed with it and both were boiled again. It was then allowed to cool, and when properly set it was fit for use.
The old people used make candles from rushes. they first cut them, then took the green skin off them, and left them before the fire to dry. After that they were soaked in grease, and they were then ready for use. There was a man named John Creamer from Creevelea who used to spin. From the wool he made scarfs and socks.
Another man named Patrick Christy from Creevelwa used to weave. A man named Cassidy from Raymore mountain used to tan leather for making shoes.- Bailitheoir
