The strongest remark I can remember having ever heard her make about Lord Leitrim was that he was a great tyrant, but even then she qualified it by saying "Aye, and there was sometimes a good turn in him if you knew how to come around him." She sometimes said that he was not so severe on widows, but the only act she had to relate converning him that could in any way be interpreted as kind was the concession he had granted to admit her son into her home. The keen observers, however, were of the opinion that if she could read Lord Leitrim's mind she would quickly learn that it was not kindness towards herself that prompted him to make the
