It had then the three marks quite plain.On this cemetery where once stood the Catholic Church, now stands the Protestant place of worship. When the church was desecrated the tongue was pulled out of the bell alluded to and it went ringing across the angle of the lake a distance of three quarters of a mile. There was no account of it for a hundred years, until Woodford Forest was cut down and it was got in the heart of an oak tree, and continued to be used for swearing by.
