- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)exhausted they sit by the fire eating apples and cracking nuts.Long ago the people played far more tricks on "Halloween" than they play nowadays, for example - they used to steal cabbage and hang it up over the door and the person who came into the house the next day would be either the future wife or husband. The old people firmly believed that the fairies changed from fort to fort on that night and said that it was not safe to be out after twelve o'clock because one might be swept away with them. They also believed that the fairies were heard laughing and talking on this night whilst changing about. Nobody is allowed to eat the wild fruit after this night because it is supposed to be destroyed by the fairies.
