- The Irish people had always great devotion to St. Martin of Tours who was a cousin of our own national apostle St. Patrick. His feast occurs on the eleventh of November and it was always the custom to kill some fowl and shed the blood in his honour. This had to be done within nine nights after "Lá Samhna" because the old people said he would accept the offering in his honour before the feast but not after. It was not enough to kill the fowl but the blood had actually to be scattered about.
This custom was, and is, still strictly carried out in every home in this district.- Bailitheoir
