- In olden times old people could tell what sort of weather was coming. They could tell this by looking at the appearance of the sun and moon.
When there is a new moon the shape of semi-circle with very sharp horns they said it was holding up the rain they said it was holding up the rain and that there would be good weather. If there is a new moon with a circle of mist round it. It is said that rain follow.
When the sun is shining in the west and if it sinks very red there will be good weather. In the morning when the sun rises and if there is red in the sky overhead there will be rain.
Whenever a cat is seen scraping a tree it is there will be storm. If a person is walking round and if the robin is hopping before them it is said there will be snow. Whenever the swallows are floating there will be bad weather. When the crane flies from the hills down to bogs and lowland meadows rain is(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
