Long ago there were no chimneys. There was only a hole in the roof to let the smoke out. The fire was often near the window and the smoke went out through it instead of a chimney.
There were no bolts to lock the door with long ago. Before the people went to bed they used to put a big stick inside the door. This stick was called the báta.
