- Marriage Customs
Marriages take place every quarter in this district. Always on Shrove Tuesday many marriages take place. May was the unlucky month of the year for they said any-body who would get married in May would never be lucky. They said Monday and Wednesday were the best days of the week. Matches were made in all parts. First of all the girl would arrange with the man on what night he would come. Her friends would be there also. Usually the girl's grannie would be there when the man would come. Then they would all start to sing the old song "We may sing and be happy drink out of one glass for we may or might never all meet here again". Then the man would put the question, if he succeeded well he would take a glass-bardog out of his pocket and treat the man of the house first.
The people do not remember marriages taking place in the houses for it was only the custom for a man(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
